craft fair - the outcome

good afternoon all.well i have packed up all my wares and now i`m back home trying to warm up.well the fair was busy and there were lots of people looking, now notice i said looking.i had a lot of admiration of my cards and its going to be a monthly thing after christmas and i really enjoyed it plus my mum had a good time.so on to my sales, well i went with the notion in my head that i would not sell any.so hold on to your seats, i sold the grand total of ................................................................................................................................................8 cards.
lol.not over good but it covered the cost of the table and it got my cards noticed.so i will be trying again next year, maybe once people have seen me a couple of times they won`t be scared to pick my cards up plus next time i can have other things to sell along side my cards.
right got a pile of ironing to tackle now and then 4 longer days at work before my hopital app on friday.i intend to pig out on lots of yummy food between now and friday before its soup and jelly ;D
catch ya laters.
luv coops xxxx

Hi - it's a good thing that you covered the cost of the table, and glad it hasn't put you off. I have my first craft fair in 2 weeks, so hopefully I too will manage to cover the cost of the table. xx

Soup and jelly works for me! Craft fairs can be hit and miss can't they, but am sure those that bought will be happy with their gorgeous cards and if peops picked up your business cards you'll likely get some commissions from there too. x

I can't believe you only sold 8 cards, your cards are always so gorgeous! Glad you had fun though

are these people crazy but then again they want them for pennies these days. wouldnt mind if they would pay just over cost but we take time as well guess things are hard for peeps and when you can get box for just over a couple of quid costs are cut. glad you made table cost and as you say next year peeps will buy for birthdays. hugs sue and glad mum enjoyed herself

I am not surprised your work got noticed as your cards are always stunning. I am however gobsmacked that you sold only 8, I know that's 8 more than you thought you would but if I had come I would have bought as many as I could carry. I think it's a fab idea to go again so you get known by local attendees, that may lead to commissions too. Well done and enjoy your week of lovely food xxx

Well done on selling 8 cards Coops and like you say, they know who you are and might buy some more next time...they don't know what they missed, the ones that didn't buy. Hugs, Teresa x

I think I sold about 8 cards when I last did a Craft Fair. I think the problem is people are looking for bargains and unless you are really underpricing your cards that's a bit tricky. I always tend to buy more than I sell! Well done you, Jo x

Hi, just catching up with as many blogs as I can after my holiday and before heading off to Darlington from Wed - Sat for CC's workshop. Craft fairs are hard this year I'm told. I've done well at some and not very well at others. Still 8 was better than nothing but I find more people looking than buying. Can see I have missed some fab cards. Lucky you getting those new stamps. Take care. Marianne x

Ahh can't believe they didn't buy more Coops! your cards are perfection! but like you say at least it covers the cost of table and yes they might not be so shy next time! I did a Car Boot once years ago and it went terrible. I had all my daughter's beautiful baby clothes and toys going for a song (cheap) and nobody bought! The only thing I sold? Some Beer Brewing equipment that I shoved in at last minute - it was filthy mouldy too! but I guess the guy wanted to start it up as a hobby and he could sterilize all the stuff?? LOL
Take Care and have a good evening!
Big Hugs!

People are NUTS to pass up your cards...they are AWMAZING.....I do one craft show per year as well and this yr i did it a little different. I think i sold about 12 or so individual cards but sold 6 sets of christmas cards, 3 sets of all occasion, which i made a little more cost effective for people. I colored one or two pages of images, copied them and made about 4or5 identical cards with not much embellishments as to drive up the cost. Put them in packs of 6 or 10 depending on what i managed to get done. Then priced them accordingly...cheaper of course but i let customers know they are not one of a kind. The one of a kind are sold individually for a higher cost of course. So i was able to sell to different bugets. I also carry many other things on my table. I never go with just one thing, i like variety....anyhoo....not sure if this helps any but really i wish i was there cause i would grab up your designs in a sec....tfs

they are fools for not snapping up ,ore, least you had a good day and covered the cost of the table x

I can't believe you only sold 8 Nic...... But remember what I said about psychology in selling? If you price something ridiculously high.... for some reason people think that it must be worth it, and they buy! Believe me, I've witnessed it time and again. Sell something too cheap, and people think it mustn't be any good, even though their eyes tell them differently. So weird.

Glad you're back home and warmed up now tho... and am sure people did notice - how could they miss such stunners???

Hugs

Well 8 is definitely better than none, but you really should have sold a lot more, your cards are fantastic! I am clearly not brave enough to try and sell anything. I just make cards, send a few and store most of them... Hugs Delphine xx

What a shame you didn't sell more cards, Nic! You have the consolation that it covered the cost of your stall, but I am surprised you didn't sell loads! I too have a stall next week, just at the local school xmas fair and am not very optimistic as to how many I'll sell, people just don't appreciate the time and effort involved in making these creations, plus the fact that they don't have as many pounds in their pockets to spend makes craft fairs a difficult nut to crack! Better luck next time and don't get disheartened! Lisa X

Well its 8 less cards Coops! At least you sold something and it covered the cost of your table....
You are amazing with your cardmaking, you definitely will get noticed sooner or later....

Hello Nic, now I know why I don't do fairs, or even try to sell my cards ... however, like you say, once your name gets known you will in all probability find people coming to you with orders.

Now, I could happily live on soup and jelly, with a plate of custard thrown into the mix now and again :) Hope your hospital trip works out well for you.

Thanks for all the lovely comments you leave on my blog - they are all welcome and much appreciated. I feel I've been very neglectful of you of late but now that the Alpha series is complete I'll have a bit more time to keep up with your blog.

Hello Coops
Strange how no-one can sell much at fairs, yet... if they were on the shelf at Asda, folk would be fighting for them!!!!!!!! especially at the cost we sell them.... yet they will pay £5.00 for something mass produced and not blink an eye-lid.... at least your Mum enjoyed it

well at least you covered your cost of the table Nic, better than nought! Frustrating though isn't it when people look and tell you how lovely but then don't with to buy. Enjoy your week of indulgence x

well done on 8, I did the odd craft fair and that seems like a good day! Glad you had fun with your Mum though!

I don't get some people at all Nic! If your cards had been for sale in one of those pricey gift shops they'd have sold really well and at a high price because they're handcrafted. Why do people who go to craft fairs not appreciate the work that goes into things?? Still, 8 is better than none and at least you weren't out of pocket.

Well done on managing to sell 8 cards! I've been to some where I've not sold any cards. I hope that things will become successul for you in the New Year as your cards are amazing.

I think maybe your cards because craft fairs at Christmas tend to do well with christmas gifty things , I have noticed a card stall at the school fair and it doesnt appear to do well either which is why I have never bothered. I do better with my cards with people ordering personalised ones or for the CAS ones I put in packs of ten. Your cards are gorgeous maybe you should try the folksy site K xx

Hi Nic, well 8 is better than nothing and you covered the cost of the table, plus had a nice time - so in one way you've done well. On the other hand, just 8 out of a couple hundred isn't so good.

I've only started selling my cards recently just to two good friends as well, but only charge them a pound or two each for each card - they really don't want to pay more (and I never knew what to charge so that's what I settled on) but I wouldn't even try selling them any where else, there are just so many out there - and every other person seems to make cards - that I can't see mine selling.

Yours are just gorgeous tho - I would agree with Paper Pixie - have you tried Folksy? Or something similar - that might work better than at a craft fair where (I think anyway) people are just browsing or looking for a bargain.

Best of luck for next time,
Sarah

Hey Coops. I've done a few myself and i've experienced the same as you. Many lovely comments, but not many sales. I'm trying again next month.
I hope you do better and better next year too. 8 cards is a good start.

Glad to hear it didn't put you off. 8 is a pretty good start Coops and the experience you will have gained today will help you know what to do next time. Those 8 people now have your details and the recipient of the cards will get your details so its multiplying as we speak;)
